At the intersection of underground music, identity and politics
DEDICATED TO NEW YORK'S UNDERGROUND MUSIC SCENE
We understand that smaller venues play a vital role in crafting New York's cultural and artistic identity, with local artists acting as the scene's backbone. We collaborate with artists and report alongside the community by reporting from the bottom up. On top of online distribution, we're at major DIY shows across the city. So, we meet you where you are.
NYC's DIY Scene in Numbers
What is the D.I.Y Scene?
At its bones, D.I.Y encompasses an ethos that shies away from mainstream influences and acts as a safe haven for people who feel marginalized like women, people of color and the LGBTQ community. From the origins of hip-hop in the Boogie Down Bronx to the Bowery's undisputed birthplace of punk, the best of New York City's contributions to music and art are often made in the city's underground or Do It Yourself spaces.
